F.A.Q.
Q- How often should I have my dog groomed?
A- If you have the type of dog that has hair that grows long in front of their eyes, it should be groomed at least every 4-6 weeks to keep the hair out of their eyes. If their hair doesn't grow fast or you are trying to grow them out you can go longer between full grooms. However, you should still bring them in regularly for a bath and sanitary trim to keep them neat and mat free between cuts.
Q- How often should I get my dog's nails trimmed?
A- That depends on the dog. Like people, their nails all grow at a different rate so it varies from dog to dog. Most of our clients get theirs done monthly as part of their bath or full service groom.
Q- Some shampoos make my dog feel itchy. What is a good shampoo to use?
A- That depends on what is making it itch. We recommend trying a soap free, oatmeal shampoo because oat shampoos are hypo-allergenic. If that does not work you may need a medicated shampoo.
Q- Will giving my dog a bath affect his flea treatments?
A- It can. If you are using a topical flea treatment (i.e. frontline, advantage, etc.), you must use a soap free shampoo or it will wash your drops right off. Also, it is good to wait a day after giving your dog a bath before you apply a topical flea treatment to make sure the hair follicles are 100% dry. This helps ensure maximum effectiveness.
Q- When should I start having my puppy groomed?
A- Ideally puppies should begin receiving preparations for being groomed from birth. As far as professional grooming is concerned, we like to start seeing them around 8 weeks (after they have had their first "puppy shots") for a bath, nails and a little trimming if necessary. This is so that the puppy can start getting to know the groomer and can get used to the basic parts of grooming before its first full groom/ hair cut, thus reducing potential stress for that first clip.
